Libya’s Prime Minister of the Parliament-designate government, Osama Hammad, has voiced strong support for citizens demanding a prompt presidential election to end the country’s institutional divide.
Speaking amid ongoing demonstrations known as the “National Movement,” Hammad emphasised that his government stands alongside the voices of Libyans calling for rapid political resolution. “In the current circumstances, we join the voices of our people in advocating for presidential elections to conclude this challenging period of institutional division,” he said.
Hammad praised the efforts of the House of Representatives and its members in safeguarding rights and freedoms over recent years, noting that the parliament continues to enjoy the full trust of the Libyan people. He expressed hope that ongoing cooperation with the National Elections Commission would create a framework to ensure elections are held without delay.
The Prime Minister urged the international community to respect the will of the Libyan people, highlighting the democratic principle of self-determination.
“We call on our regional and global partners to support the choice of the Libyan people for inclusive presidential elections and to oppose any external actions that might undermine the electoral process,” Hammad stated.
Libya has experienced repeated political deadlock and institutional rivalries since 2011, and the current public demonstrations reflect widespread demand for political accountability and a clear roadmap to national elections.
