Libya’s Ministry of Economy and Trade in the Tripoli-based Government of National Unity (GNU) has officially activated the country’s digital Foreign Trade Facilitation System, a platform designed to modernise and regulate trade operations across the Libyan market. The announcement was made on Sunday, signalling a significant step towards enhancing transparency and improving digital governance in external trade.
According to the ministry, the platform — operated by the Libya Trade Network and accessed through the “Tasehil” digital portal — will serve as the primary communication channel between the authorities and all importing and exporting companies. It allows users to review regulations, legislation, technical specifications, and the full range of procedures governing import, export, and transit activities.
The initiative is part of a wider push to reorganise and streamline foreign trade systems amid increasing calls from Libyan businesses for clarity and improved efficiency. The ministry said the platform will also help companies stay informed about operational requirements and compliance obligations, reducing delays and improving coordination with customs, banks, and logistical services.
The “Tasehil” platform additionally offers services enabling users to inquire about applicable fees, banking and customs procedures, technical inspections, and logistical operations such as shipping and transport. It provides dedicated channels to submit complaints, report obstacles encountered during trade operations, and propose solutions that can help improve transparency and support the development of Libya’s external trade sector.
The launch aligns with Cabinet Decision No. 637 of 2024 concerning the regulation of the Libya Trade Network and implements Article 10 of the approved regulation related to the National Inquiry Point for facilitating foreign trade.
The ministry reaffirmed that the new system is intended to simplify procedures, support private-sector activity, and contribute to creating a more organised digital business environment, ultimately strengthening Libya’s position in regional and international markets.
