The Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Awad Al-Badri, held a high-level meeting in Benghazi with Lieutenant General Khairy Al-Tamimi, Secretary-General of the General Command of the Libyan National Army (LNA), to review the power requirements of major strategic projects supervised by the General Command.

The discussion focused on ensuring a stable and uninterrupted electricity supply to facilities considered essential for national infrastructure and security operations.

Al-Badri outlined the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to reinforce the national grid, expand generation capacity, and accelerate maintenance work in regions where strategic projects are being developed or upgraded.

He emphasized that reliable electricity is a key foundation for advancing national priorities, including development, security operations, and long-term economic planning. He also noted that the Ministry is working on future-ready solutions, including integrating renewable energy sources to ease pressure on the existing grid.

For his part, Al-Tamimi praised the Ministry’s progress in improving electricity services and highlighted the importance of close coordination between state institutions to ensure power stability for critical sites.

He reiterated that the General Command continues to provide a secure operating environment that allows the Ministry to implement major electricity projects without disruption. According to Al-Tamimi, ensuring power stability for strategic and military facilities is essential for maintaining readiness and supporting national development efforts.

The meeting also reviewed current operational challenges, including the need for upgraded transmission lines, faster response to emergency outages, and improved planning to accommodate upcoming expansion projects. Both sides agreed on strengthening joint technical teams to ensure continuous communication, swift problem-solving, and long-term planning for electricity needs linked to strategic national projects.

At the end of the meeting, Al-Badri received an honorary shield from the Al-Tamaim Equestrian and Folk Poetry Festival in recognition of his support for the event and his role in enhancing electricity services in the region.
