Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi affirmed Cairo’s commitment to continue providing “all forms of support and assistance” to the Libyan National Army (LNA) and Libya’s national institutions during a meeting on Monday with Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army. The talks were attended by General Intelligence Chief Hassan Rashad, Lieutenant General Khaled Khalifa, Chief of General Staff of the Libyan National Army, and Lieutenant General Saddam Khalifa, Deputy Commander-in-Chief.
According to the Presidential Spokesperson, the meeting underscored the deep strategic ties between Egypt and Libya and the importance of their shared national security. President El-Sisi reiterated Egypt’s unwavering position in supporting Libya’s sovereignty, territorial unity, and long-term stability. He also praised the LNA’s role in countering security threats and maintaining stability across the country.
During the discussions, the President emphasized the need to confront foreign interference that continues to hinder political progress, stressing the importance of withdrawing all foreign forces and mercenaries from Libyan territory. Restoring full sovereignty, he said, is essential for Libya to regain control over its internal affairs and advance toward political and economic reconstruction.
Presidential spokesperson Mohamed El-Shenawy conveyed El-Sisi’s support for all initiatives aimed at resolving the Libyan crisis—particularly efforts to hold simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections. He described elections as the most effective route to establishing lasting stability and unifying state institutions.
President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s readiness to continue assisting the LNA and Libya’s legitimate institutions, reinforcing the close ties between the two neighboring countries and supporting Libya’s ability to secure its borders and preserve stability.
Both sides agreed to maintain ongoing coordination in the coming period to back Libya’s political and security tracks and strengthen efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive settlement.
