Libyan authorities have inaugurated a series of major infrastructure and public service projects in the southern city of Sebha, marking a significant step in efforts to improve essential services and revive development in the region.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Second Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Misbah Douma, alongside several members of parliament, including Ahmed Al-Sharif, Issa Al-Aribi, Zayed Hadiya, Mohammed Ajdeed, Mohammed Douma, Ibrahim Al-Hadi, Mohammed Abdel Salam Arifa, and Fatima Al-Suwai’i. The event was also attended by Prime Minister Osama Hammad, as well as senior government, military, and security officials.
Among the projects officially opened were the Sebha Medical Center and a new university complex in the city, including student housing facilities, the Faculty of Law, and the Faculty of Commerce and Political Science. The facilities were inaugurated following the completion of extensive maintenance, rehabilitation, and development works.
The projects were implemented by the Libya Development and Reconstruction Fund as part of its broader plan to upgrade infrastructure and public services across southern Libya. The fund’s Director General, Belqasem Haftar, attended the ceremony, alongside the Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Khaled Haftar.
The inauguration was also attended by the commander of the 166th Brigade, Major General Ayoub Abu Seif, Deputy Prime Minister-designate and Minister of Defense Ahmed Houma, Minister of State for Communication Khaled Al-Saadawi, Interior Ministry Undersecretary Major General Faraj Aqaim, Local Governance Ministry Undersecretary Abu Bakr Al-Zuwai, Health Ministry Undersecretary Abdel Salam Aqila, National Development Agency head Jibril Al-Badri, and Hatem Al-Aribi, Director of Projects at the Development and Reconstruction Fund.
Local officials, including the mayor and members of Sebha’s municipal council, as well as community elders, dignitaries, and a number of military and security leaders, were also present.
Officials said the newly inaugurated projects aim to enhance healthcare services, expand higher education capacity, and improve living conditions for students and residents, underscoring the government’s commitment to supporting stability and development in Libya’s southern region.
