The Ajdabiya Security Directorate announced the arrest of a group of migrant workers after they were involved in the physical assault of a Libyan citizen in the city of Ajdabiya.

According to an official statement, the suspects—who include workers of African and Egyptian nationalities—were detained following the circulation of a video showing them attacking a Libyan man at a cement sales market in the city. The Directorate described the incident as a clear and unacceptable violation of public safety and the security of citizens.

The statement confirmed that, within less than 24 hours of the video being shared online, investigators from the city police station’s criminal investigation unit successfully identified all individuals involved. The suspects were arrested and taken into custody without incident.

Police said that a preliminary investigation report was filed, and all necessary legal measures were taken in accordance with Libyan law. The suspects have since been referred to the Public Prosecution for further investigation and legal proceedings, in line with jurisdictional procedures.

The Ajdabiya Security Directorate emphasized its commitment to responding swiftly to incidents that threaten public order, stressing that assaults against citizens will not be tolerated regardless of the perpetrators’ background or nationality. Authorities also reaffirmed their readiness to act decisively against any actions that undermine security or social stability in the city.

The incident has drawn public attention on social media, where users called for accountability and stronger enforcement of the law to ensure the protection of citizens in public spaces.
