The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) announced on Tuesday the opening of applications to join a Youth Outreach Volunteer Team supporting Libya’s Structured Dialogue process.

According to a statement published on UNSMIL’s official Facebook page, the mission is offering volunteer opportunities for up to 16 young people, aged 18 to 35, who will contribute to creating content for the Youth Digital Platform throughout the dialogue period.

UNSMIL said applicants should demonstrate strong communication and creative content production skills, along with a genuine interest in political processes. Applications must be submitted via the official registration form before midnight on February 15.

The mission explained that selected volunteers will begin training in early March. Each team, consisting of four members, will attend dialogue deliberations to produce digital content. Team members will rotate on a monthly basis to ensure broader participation by young men and women.

Volunteers will receive professional support through UNSMIL’s Basira Media Professional Development Programme, which includes training in digital journalism and content creation. The program also provides space for participants to propose ideas on effective communication around key dialogue issues, while strengthening leadership, communication, and civic engagement skills.

UNSMIL clarified that volunteers will not be considered UN staff or employees of any UN entity, stressing that the roles are voluntary and unpaid.

Selection Criteria

Applicants must:

Be aged between 18 and 35

Be resident in Libya and politically independent

Have proven experience in social media content creation, including video and written content, and the ability to conduct interviews

Be available to volunteer for up to 10 days per month

Commit to mandatory online journalism training throughout the dialogue period and produce youth-focused content highlighting key Structured Dialogue themes

UNSMIL Invites Libyans to Online Dialogue Session with Hanna Serwaa Tetteh

Earlier on Tuesday, UNSMIL also invited all Libyans to participate in an online discussion session with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Libya, Hanna Serwaa Tetteh, scheduled for Sunday at 5:00 p.m..

The session will focus on the governance track of the Structured Dialogue, addressing ways to build stable, accountable, and unified institutions serving all Libyans.

UNSMIL said Tetteh will respond to questions related to the government track. Participants are required to register via the mission’s official website to receive the Zoom link and submit questions or comments.
