A specialized orthopedic and joint replacement medical team at Ibn Sina Teaching Hospital has successfully carried out 20 complex joint replacement surgeries for Libyan patients from multiple regions, hospital officials announced on Tuesday.
The surgical team was led by the hospital’s Director General and orthopedic surgery consultant, Dr. Ali Al-Jaroushi, and included a group of highly trained doctors, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff specializing in orthopedic and joint procedures.
According to hospital officials, the patients who benefited from the surgeries came from Sirte, Tripoli, Al-Jufra, Derna, Tarhuna, Al-Khums, as well as other Libyan cities, reflecting growing national confidence in the medical services provided at the hospital.
The procedures were conducted with direct support from the Medical Supply Authority and the Medical and Therapeutic Services sector, and were implemented in cooperation with Alpha Medical Company, which supplied the necessary surgical equipment and prosthetic joints.
Speaking to the press following the completion of the joint replacement surgery workshop, Dr. Al-Jaroushi confirmed that all 20 operations were completed successfully, noting that such procedures are now performed on a regular basis at Ibn Sina Teaching Hospital.
He stressed that the success of these surgeries demonstrates the high level of trust Libyan patients place in local medical expertise, particularly as the hospital continues to reduce the need for patients to travel abroad or seek treatment in private clinics at high financial cost.
Dr. Al-Jaroushi added that providing advanced orthopedic care inside Sirte significantly eases the physical, psychological, and financial burden on patients and their families, while also strengthening the role of public hospitals in delivering specialized healthcare services across Libya.
Hospital officials described the initiative as part of broader efforts to upgrade surgical capacity, localize advanced medical treatments, and enhance the quality of orthopedic care in central Libya.
