Work continues on installing key equipment at the Al-Kish electricity injection substation in Benghazi, as part of Libya’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its power grid and improve electricity services across the eastern region.
The General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) announced that technical teams are progressing with the preparation and installation of equipment at the 11/30/220 kV Al-Kish injection substation, following the completion of the civil construction works at the project site.
Installation of 11 kV Cells Underway
According to the company, engineers have begun installing 11 kV electrical cells inside the designated hall at the substation. This phase represents a major step toward bringing the facility closer to operational readiness.
Once this stage is completed, work will move to the next phase, which involves preparing and equipping the second hall dedicated to 30 kV electrical cells, a crucial component of the station’s operational infrastructure.
The project is being implemented under the supervision of the Benghazi Plain Distribution Projects Department, which is responsible for overseeing electricity distribution infrastructure across the region.
Strengthening Benghazi’s Electricity Network
The Al-Kish injection substation project forms part of broader efforts to reinforce Libya’s electricity network, particularly in Benghazi and surrounding areas where electricity demand has grown steadily.
Officials say the station will help improve operational stability within the grid, reduce pressure on existing substations, and enhance the reliability of electricity services for residents and businesses.
Upgrading injection substations is considered a critical component of Libya’s long-term strategy to modernize the national power grid and address recurring electricity shortages.
