Humanitarian assistance efforts continued in eastern Libya as the Libyan Relief and Humanitarian Aid Authority launched a food distribution campaign targeting members of the Sudanese community living in the city of Derna and surrounding areas.
The initiative aims to support vulnerable families and ease living pressures faced by displaced and migrant communities in the region. According to officials, the program is part of ongoing humanitarian efforts designed to assist families struggling with difficult economic and social conditions.
The food distribution operation is being carried out in partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP) and targets approximately 600 Sudanese families residing in Derna and nearby districts.
Local officials from the authority’s Derna office confirmed that the initiative was implemented following directives from the head of the authority, Salem Bouzreida, who called for continued humanitarian support for the most vulnerable groups in Libya, including both Libyan citizens and foreign communities living in the country.
They explained that the authority continues to run a range of relief programs in coordination with local and international partners, aiming to alleviate hardships faced by families dealing with economic difficulties and displacement.
Organized Distribution Process
The Derna office stated that the distribution process was conducted through a structured and organized mechanism to ensure the assistance reached those most in need. The food baskets included a selection of essential food items designed to help families meet their daily nutritional requirements.
Authorities also coordinated closely with relevant local bodies to ensure the process ran smoothly and efficiently. The structured approach reflects the authority’s commitment to delivering humanitarian services in a transparent and effective manner.
Expanding Humanitarian Programs in Libya
The initiative forms part of a broader series of humanitarian projects implemented by the Libyan Relief and Humanitarian Aid Authority across several regions of the country. These programs focus on strengthening humanitarian work and providing support to the most vulnerable groups, including migrants, displaced families, and low-income households.
Officials stressed that the authority remains committed to its humanitarian mission of assisting those in need and expanding cooperation with international organizations to broaden the reach of relief efforts.
Through partnerships with organizations such as the World Food Programme, Libya’s humanitarian institutions aim to increase support for communities facing economic hardship while ensuring aid reaches affected populations across the country.
