A young man has died after suffering an electric shock while helping to drain floodwater in Tajoura, as heavy rainfall swept across Tripoli and surrounding areas.
The incident occurred overnight as intense rain led to widespread flooding in several districts of the capital. Streets in Tajoura were heavily inundated, prompting residents to take part in voluntary efforts to remove water and reduce damage to homes and infrastructure.
According to local reports cited by Al Wasat Gate, the victim was identified as Mohamed Shleibek, a resident of the Amarat Al-Souq area. He was assisting neighbours in clearing accumulated rainwater when he came into contact with an electrical source, resulting in a fatal electric shock at the scene.
The incident has drawn attention to the dangers associated with handling floodwater in urban areas where exposed electrical connections may be present. Witnesses said the young man was actively participating in community efforts when the accident occurred.
Heavy rainfall continued for several hours, causing significant water build-up in multiple parts of Tripoli. Videos shared on social media showed flooded streets and vehicles struggling to move through submerged roads, as residents attempted to manage the situation with limited resources.
