Libya’s U-17 national team suffered a second consecutive defeat in the North African U-17 Championship, losing 2–1 to Tunisia in a fast-paced and competitive encounter. The result further complicates Libya’s chances of advancing in the tournament, placing the team under growing pressure ahead of its remaining fixtures.
The match began with high intensity, as both sides exchanged attacks from the opening minutes. Libya made an early breakthrough in the 11th minute when forward Abdulrahman Abuzoida scored, giving his team a deserved lead and boosting confidence among the young Mediterranean Knights.
Tunisia, however, responded quickly and effectively. Just eight minutes later, Othman Ben Hussein capitalized on a defensive gap to score the equalizer, restoring balance and shifting momentum in favor of the Tunisian side.
Libya continued to threaten, creating several chances before halftime. The most notable opportunity fell to Mohamed Krowad, who missed a clear chance that could have restored Libya’s lead. At the other end, Libya’s defense showed resilience, clearing two dangerous attempts off the goal line to ensure the first half ended level at 1–1.
The second half maintained a high tempo, with Tunisia pressing forward while Libya relied on quick counterattacks and long passes behind the defense. The decisive moment came in the 55th minute, when Tunisia was awarded a penalty. The spot kick was converted successfully, giving Tunisia a 2–1 lead that proved decisive.
Despite falling behind, Libya displayed strong determination and fighting spirit, pushing forward in search of an equalizer until the final whistle. However, their efforts were not enough to break through Tunisia’s defense.
The defeat leaves Libya with two losses in the tournament, significantly reducing its chances of qualifying, particularly for the third-place spot. The team now faces a crucial test in its upcoming match against Egypt, where it must secure a positive result to keep its hopes alive.
