Libyan Foreign Minister Holds Meeting over Sirte Conference

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Libya’s Interim Government, Abdel-Hadi Al-Hwaij held a meeting in Sirte. This was to discuss arrangements for holding the Second Sirte Conference.

The meeting was attended by members of the preparatory committee for the Second Sirte Conference, as well as the head of the social council of the city’s tribes, the social coordinator of the General Command in Sirte, and the heads of the sub-committees in charge of the conference. A number of women, and civil society institutions participated and a number of department directors and offices from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also attended the meeting.

During the meeting, Al-Hwaij discussed preparing accommodation sites, communications, and internet access. He also reviewed media communications to cover the various activities of this important conference.

The meeting witnessed consultations on the themes and objectives of the conference, as well as the issues needed to be discussed.

The Second Sirte Conference will be attended by different segments of society, including intellectuals, judges, prosecutors, descendants of martyrs, university professors, internally and externally displaced people, women and youth organizations, victims of terrorism, civil society organisations, sheikhs and tribal elders, and the sons and grandsons of the founders of the Sirte Charter.

It is noteworthy that the first Sirte conference was held on 21 January 1922. It was attended by 4 members from the eastern region, and seven members from the western region.
