The Prime Minister of the Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez Al-Sarraj, met with the head of the European Union delegation to Libya, Jose Sabadell, and the leader of the Operation IRINI, Admiral Fabio Agostini. They discussed the results of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) in Tunis.

During the meeting, they discussed security cooperation between the EU and Libya. The talks touched on the issue of illegal migration and joint cooperation in facing the repercussions of this phenomenon.

They stressed the importance of coordination with migrants’ home countries, according to a tweet on the European mission’s account.

Al-Sarraj appreciated the efforts made by the European Union to support the peace process and future elections. He confirmed the GNA’s adherence to the national principles of building a modern civil state.

Sabadell tweeted, “Congratulations to the Libyan people on the progress of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF)”. He also added that the time has come for “everyone to put the interest of the country above their own, and be ready to compromise to achieve the peace that the Libyans demand, and deserve.”

He confirmed the EU’s full support for the peace process in Libya, the ongoing security issues, and focus on the UN arms embargo. The EU is also focused on preventing oil smuggling, providing training for security services, and disrupting human trafficking networks.

He also stressed that achieving land and sea borders, law enforcement, and justice are major contributions to achieving peace and stability in Libya.
