On Monday, Russia’s Special Representative for Middle East and African Affairs Mikhail Bogdanov met with the Egyptian Ambassador to Moscow, Ihab Nasr. The two discussed coordinating approaches to Middle Eastern issues, with a focus on the situations in Libya and Syria.

“During the conversation, some topical issues were discussed regarding the further development of multi-faceted Russian-Egyptian cooperation, including the coordination of approaches on regional issues with a focus on resolving crises in Libya and Syria”, a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry said. The Ministry stated that the meeting was held at Egypt’s suggestion.

Last week, the Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives Ageela Saleh received an official invitation from his Egyptian counterpart, Ali Abdel-Aal, to hold a consultative meeting on 24 November at the Egyptian Parliament headquarters in Cairo.

Saleh is also scheduled to visit Moscow in the coming days to discuss the most recent developments in Libya with Russian officials.
