After five days of enforced disappearance, the well-known orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Al-Siddiq Bin Dallah has been freed on Sunday. However, his kidnappers are still at large.

Tripoli’s Al-Khadra Hospital announced that Dr. Al-Siddiq Bin Dallah arrived home safely and wished him to recover soon from the horrific incident.

On 1st December, the 66-year-old university professor and doctor was driving home on the ‘11 June road’ in Tripoli before being intercepted by masked gunmen who took him to an unknown destination.

A massive campaign took place in solidarity with the kidnapped doctor, calling for his immediate release and for the perpetrators to be brought to justice.

The embassies of the United States, Canada, and the Netherlands in Libya also condemned the kidnapping of Dr. Bin Dallah.

The United Nation Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) had also expressed concern at the disappearance of Bin Dallah and called for his immediate and unconditional release. More broadly, UNSMIL expressed alarm at the rising level of criminality across Libya at the hands of armed groups who operate with impunity.
