The Chairman of the Presidential Council of Libya, Fayez al-Sarraj, stressed the need to hasten the release of necessary funds to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

The statement came during a meeting regarding the implementation of strict precautionary measures to fight the spread of the virus.

Several senior officials presided the meeting, including the President of the High Council of State, the Chief of the Audit Bureau, the Minister of Finance, the President of the Administrative Control Authority and the Minister of Planning.

The meeting discussed facilitating the immediate payment of salaries to state employees and ensuring the provision of basic services to Libyan citizens and refugees.

The National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) announced on Tuesday the first known case of COVID-19 (commonly known as Coronavirus) in Tripoli, Libya.
