The Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) will convene on 5 January, according to the 218TV website. A new round of dialogue is to be arranged by the sponsors of the LPDF. The next round is expected to be held in Tunisia and believed to be decisive in producing concrete results by 7 January.

On Monday, the Acting Head of the United Nation Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Stephanie Williams, held a second virtual meeting of the LPDF’s Legal Committee.

The meeting focused on legislative and legal foundations necessary for holding national elections. The head of Libya’s High National Elections Commission (HNEC), Emad Al-Din Al-Sayeh, also attended the meeting. He briefed Williams on the progress made by HNEC in terms of technical preparedness necessary for holding elections on 24 December 2021. These elections are meant to be based on electoral legislation that is due to be adopted in the coming period.
