The Algerian Foreign Minister, Sabri Boukadoum, has affirmed his country’s keenness to achieve stability in Libya, with which it shares long borders. Boukadoum noted that the return of the Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune from his medical trip in Germany will pave the way for the return of diplomatic activity in this path. The Algerian minister added that “a number of issues deserve the presence of the president, and with his return, the pace will increase to meet all the challenges that Algeria faces today.”

In press statements on the sidelines of the graduation ceremony of the 49th batch of the National School of Administration, Boukadoum highlighted Algeria’s adherence to resolving the Libyan crisis and ending its conflict peacefully considering the importance that Algiers gives to the stability of neighbouring countries.

Last week, Libya’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdul-Hadi al-Hwaij, held a telephone conversation with his Algerian counterpart, Sabri Boukadoum, to discuss many regional files, especially the recent developments in the Libyan crisis.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Libyan Interim Government, Al-Hwaij congratulated the Algerian minister on the safe return of President Abdelmajid Tebboune to the country after his recovery from coronavirus. In turn, Boukadoum reiterated his country’s unconditional support and commitment to helping Libya achieve a political solution to its crisis without any foreign intervention. During their talks, the two ministers stressed the importance of enhancing bilateral relations at all levels.

Libya has been plagued by a state of insecurity and chaos ever since the fall of the late leader Muammar Gaddafi’s regime in 2011.
