The Prime Minister of the Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez al-Sarraj, together with the Ambassador of the United States to Libya, Richard Norland, discussed the progress made in solving the Libyan crisis.

During his stay in the Italian capital Rome, Al-Sarraj and the U.S. Ambassador to Libya discussed the developments and progress made towards resolving the Libyan crisis. According to an official statement, they spoke in particular about the importance of the “military-security track, and the political and economic tracks.”

According to the Media Office of the GNA Presidential Council, both men emphasized the need to stop negative foreign interference in Libya so that the above tracks can achieve the goals of establishing security, achieving stability, and economic recovery.

On Saturday, Al-Sarraj also met with the Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Stephanie Williams in Rome. In a statement the Presidential Council said that the meeting dealt with recent developments in Libya and ways to move forward on the political track.

The statement added that Williams welcomed Al-Sarraj’s commitment to harnessing all capabilities to enable the Electoral Commission to accomplish the election on the date agreed upon in December 2021, in cooperation and coordination with the United Nations (UN).
