LPDF Legal Committee Presents Proposals for 2021 Elections

The Libyan Political Dialogue Forum’s (LPDF) recently formed Legal Committee held a virtual session on Sunday. Members presented their proposals regarding the constitutional basis for the national elections scheduled on 24 December 2021.

During the talks, they agreed to hold intensive sessions this week to reach a consensus on the submitted proposals.

The United Nations Support Mission to Libya (UNSMIL) commended the constructive discussions of the committee and stressed the importance of moving towards agreeing on specific proposals to be presented to the LPDF.

The legal committee comprises of 18 LPDF members and is mandated to follow-up on the discussions of the constitutional committee, established by the Libyan Parliament and the High Council of State (HCS).

UNSMIL reiterated that the national elections date of 2021 remains “a sine qua non for UNSMIL, a guiding principle, and a goal that shall not be relinquished.”
