Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov reiterated Moscow’s readiness for constructive cooperation with Libya’s interim government, during telephone calls with Head of the Presidential Council Mohammed Al-Menfi, and interim Prime Minister Abdul-Hamid Dabiba.

A statement issued by the Russian MoFA said that Lavrov stressed Russia’s commitment to closer cooperation to further develop the traditionally friendly Russian-Libyan relations. It added that the FM noted that the newly-elected Libyan politicians had a difficult task ahead of them and wished them success.

The Libyan politicians praised Russia’s position throughout the crisis and noted, “Moscow’s constructive and pro-active role in promoting a settlement involving representatives of Libya’s historical regions and political forces.”

On Friday, UNSMIL announced the election of a new Presidential Council consisting of Al-Menfi and three Deputies, namely Musa Al-Koni, AbdAllah Hussein Al-Lafi, and Prime Minister Dabiba.
