70 Migrants at Risk in the Mediterranean

A humanitarian organization announced that a boat carrying 70 migrants is facing dangers off the Libyan coast.

“We have just been informed that a boat with 70 people on board is in grave danger,” the Alarm Phone humanitarian project of the non-governmental organization (NGO) “Watch The Med” said in a tweet.

The humanitarian project added that, “we were told by the migrants that water began to seep into the boat shortly after leaving the Libyan city of Zawiya.”

The NGO concluded that, “we have immediately informed the relevant authorities that they need urgent help! ”

In October 2014, Alarm Phone was established by a network of activists and representatives of civil society organisations in Europe and North Africa. It is not concerned with rescue activities, but rather provides a toll-free phone number to deliver migratory boats’ distress calls to the authorities.
