On Sunday, the Tripoli Security Directorate reported on a manslaughter case in Tripoli’s Suq Al-Jumaa district. The young victim was shot and killed by his autistic brother, using their father’s registered firearm.

The father of the boys is believed to work for a security or military body that was not disclosed by the directorate. Asked how the child obtained the weapon, the directorate explained that this was due to the negligence of the father in concealing the gun. “the child managed to reach the gun, and kill his brother while he was sleeping.”

Accidental killings committed by children have been repeated in various parts across Libya, due to a plethora of weapons in homes. Blame has also been pointed at violent films and video games not appropriate for all ages.
