Misrata Suffers Shortage of Ventilators for COVID-19 Cases

The “Coronavirus Isolation Center at the National Institute of Misrata” in western Libya stated that there is a shortage of ventilators in the city. It described the situation as extremely dangerous and foreshadowed a disaster.

In a statement, the institute added that the intensive care rooms were full and they “are suffering from a lack of bed capacity, and no capacity to receive more people.”

It confirmed that a new wave of COVID-19 cases has begun to appear across the city. It blamed this on recent parties, festivals, celebrations and indifference from city officials.

On Monday, Libya’s National Center for Disease Control announced that it recorded 1,018 new cases throughout Libya.

The total number of cases in the country has reached 139,658 people of which 10,420 are active. 126,878 patients have successfully recovered, while 2,288 have died since the pandemic began in the country last March.
