Italian Foreign Minister, Luigi Di Maio said that the stability of Libya is a priority for Italy. He explained that this would mean ending the current migration flows, and countering the threat of extremism close to the Italian coast.

At the end of the first day of the ministerial meeting of NATO in Brussels, Di Maio said the meeting was an opportunity for discussion with US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken.

He added that achieving stability in Libya with a greater commitment from the United States was a major priority for Italy.

On Sunday, Prime Minister of Libya’s Government of National Unity (GNU) Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba held talks with Di Maio in Tripoli. They discussed issues of common interest, primarily on immigration and economic cooperation.

Dbaiba’s media office said that the Italian Foreign Minister expressed his desire to boost bilateral relations between the two countries.
