Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity (GNU), Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba launched an initiative worth 100 million Libyan dinars targeting 200,000 Libyan families in need.

The government said in a statement on Monday that the initiative is targeting destitute and displaced families, as well as widows and divorcees, and people with special needs.

The statement added that the Ministry of Social Affairs was the one who determined the targets. The allotted value would be deposited in the accounts of the target population by the holy month of Ramadan.

The announcement of the initiative comes during the government’s meeting with the ministers of economy, social affairs, and local government, in addition to a group of businessmen.

The GNU stated that the Social Solidarity Fund will oversee the initiative that was launched under the slogan “Ramadan’s Gift”.

“A group of large private companies will also contribute to the initiative, in addition to the Holding Company for Communications and the Solidarity Fund Authority, with the aim of strengthening the partnership between the private and public sectors in social responsibility issues,” the statement explained.

Dbaiba was elected last month in a UN-brokered peace process. The new Libyan government will have to lead the country to national elections in December.
