US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken and Italian Foreign Minister, Luigi Di Maio reaffirmed their support for the efforts of the Libyan people to restore unity to their country, hold elections in December, and fully implement the ceasefire agreement, the US Department of State said in a press release.

The Italian FM will stay in Washington for two days, with the visit coinciding with the 160th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Italy and the United States.

The talks focused on bilateral relations and cooperation on COVID-19 vaccines, as well as the main international issues and topics of the joint presidency of the G20, and the Joint Partnership for the Climate Summit (COP-26).

Last month, Prime Minister of Libya’s Government of National Unity (GNU) Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba held talks with Di Maio in Tripoli, where they discussed immigration and economic cooperation. Dbaiba’s media office said that Di Maio expressed his desire to strengthen bilateral relations with Libya.
