Libya Seizes Narcotic Pills Shipment from Lebanon

The Libyan Customs Authority announced the seizure of a container, with large quantities of highly concentrated tramadol pills.

The Customs Authority said that “members of the Misrata Port Customs Center managed to seize a large amount of highly concentrated Tramadol pills, which are only allowed to be imported through the Ministry of Health.”

The statement added that “these pills were hidden inside a 20-foot container coming from Lebanon, which contained medicines that are allowed to be handled, but tramadol pills were added alongside them.”

The customs authority explained that the attempts to smuggle these pills and tamper with the country’s security have failed “because of the keenness and dedication of customs officers in performing their duty.”

In May, a Tunisian citizen was arrested after he transported a large number of narcotic pills in a car through the Ras Ajdir border crossing with Libya. He was intercepted by a patrol of the Tunisian National Guard’s Research and Inspection Division in Ben Guerdane, and the Land Border Division of the National Guard in Choucha, in the south of the country.

After inspecting the car, 1800 “Pregabalin” tablets were found. The Public Prosecution authorized the taking of legal measures against the individual.

During the 29-30th April, the Tunisian National Guard managed to seize a truck loaded with grain smuggled from Algeria. The goods were seized, and their financial value was estimated at 78,000 Tunisian dinars.
