On Saturday, 30 Libyan children arrived in Egypt for a free treatment trip sponsored by the international foundation “Operation Smile.”

The Libyan children came on board an Air Libya flight, landed at Assiut International Airport, amid strict precautionary measures to confront the COVID-19 virus.

They were received by high-level Egyptian officials from Assiut Airport and Assiut University Hospital.

Dr. Mohamed El-Shazly, Head of the Department of Plastic Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine at Assiut University and the Regional Director of the Global Operation Smile Foundation for the Middle East and North Africa, said that the medical convoy represents Egypt’s leading role in supporting friendly countries.

“Egypt seeks to contribute to alleviating the burden on the Libyan people in times of adversity and crises and to provide all means of support and permanent solidarity to help these children.”

It is the first time that Libyan children with cleftlip congenital defects and cleft palates are treated at the Assiut University Hospital as part of a new free medical convoy of the “Operation Smile-Egypt” Foundation.
