On Sunday, Prime Minister of Libya’s Government of National Unity (GNU), Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba held a meeting with Minister of Oil and Gas, Mohamed Aoun, and the Chairman of the National Oil Corporation (NOC), Mustafa Sanalla, in an attempt to defuse the ongoing crisis, between the two bodies.
The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, Adel Juma, and the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil and Gas, Refaat Alabbar.
The Prime Minister directed the two officials to address their differences, stressing the importance of stabilising the oil sector, and increasing production rates. He added that the formation of an oil ministry after six years of individual work by the NOC required “administrative and technical order to create an appropriate hierarchy.”
The meeting comes against the backdrop of a dispute where Aoun attempted to remove Sanalla from his post, and referred him for investigation.
