The Supreme Council of Sheikhs of Libya called for the issuance of a mandate for the Libyan National Army (LNA) to manage the country’s affairs. The Council also denounced the Libyan Political Agreement that was signed in Skhirat, Morocco in 2015.

In a statement, the Council said that the country faced threats of terrorism, colonial occupation and a deteriorating economic situation caused by the dominance of extremist groups over state assets.

The Council regretted the deterioration of Libya’s economy, which greatly affected its citizens, and reiterated that a political solution to the conflict was not viable. It stressed the urgent need to find a practical solution to fix the nation with the aid of tribes, civil society and governmental institutions.
