Libyans Stranded Abroad Facing Hardship

A large number of Libyan nationals have been left stranded abroad due to travel restrictions implemented by governments around the world in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

With a relatively low number of total cases of Coronavirus, Libya has also suspended air traffic and closed its borders.

Attempts have been made by both governments in the country to repatriate nationals stranded abroad, but with few concrete results.

In Sudan, citizens have demanded that they be returned home immediately, citing poor living conditions and holding the government responsible for their safety.

Libyans in Ukraine who have completed the mandatory two week quarantine period and tested negative for the virus have also demanded they be repatriated.

Stranded citizens in a number of countries have urged the rival Libyan governments to return them home as soon as the health procedures advised by the World Health Organization were completed.
