Italy Ratifies ‘IRINI’ Operation’s Decree

On Friday, the Italian Cabinet announced its ratification of the missions’ decree, which included Operation EUNAVFOR MED IRINI. to implement the UN arms embargo on Libya. Among the other missions that were approved by the Cabinet in the decree, is medical assistance alongside the Libyan coast.

Operations commenced on the 4th of May, when French naval vessel ‘Jean Bart’, and a maritime patrol aircraft from Luxembourg arrived into the area.

The Italian Foreign Minister Luigi di Maio, alongside his US counterpart, Mike Pompeo, discussed the situation in Libya, expressing concerns over the intensification of hostilities in the country. The two stressed the necessity of implementing an immediate humanitarian truce, and bringing an end to all foreign interference in the country.
