EgyptAir Cargo has resumed its regular flights to Tripoli’s Mitiga Airport, after a hiatus of more than 8 years, said Jasser Hussein, the Chairman of the Company.
Hussein noted that a weekly flight will be operated to Libya. He added that the number of flights will be increased, in accordance to supply and demand, in order to serve the commercial movement between the two countries.
Hussein added that 12 cargo flights were operated during April and May 2023, with a total load of 645 tons.
The step comes within the framework of EgyptAir’s expansion plan by operating a new air cargo network.
Hussein confirmed that coordination is underway with the Libyan side to increase the number of regular and charter flights to Benghazi and Misrata.
In February, Libyan Airlines, the national flag carrier of Libya, announced the reunification of the company’s Board of Directors, after a division of more than eight years.
In a statement, the airline said that the company’s “new Board of Directors took over its duties today in the presence of the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Libyan African Aviation Holding Company, and members of the Board of Directors of the company’s management in Benghazi and Tripoli.”
“The unification of the Libyan Airlines Company is considered a national achievement that successive governments have been unable to accomplish for more than eight years,” the statement noted.
“We hope that the company’s new board will be able to provide better services to all passengers,” the statement concluded.
The EU said in April 2022, that it will continue to prevent Libyan planes from entering its airspace. This decision was made due to fears that the Libyan authorities will not be able to guarantee the safety of planes, and the continuing clashes between the conflicting Libyan parties.
