The Al Abraq Antiquities Department has announced the receipt of a valuable collection of archaeological artifacts voluntarily handed over by citizen Nasr Mohammed Tayeb Boualighda, in a step that officials described as a positive example of growing public awareness regarding the protection of Libya’s cultural and historical heritage.

According to the department, the collection includes a range of ancient coins and metal artifacts of significant historical value.

Preliminary examinations conducted by specialists indicate that the items date to several periods, spanning from the Greek era through subsequent historical epochs and into more recent times.

The diversity of the collection is expected to provide valuable insights into the region’s rich historical legacy and contribute to ongoing archaeological and heritage studies.

Officials noted that the artifacts represent an important addition to the department’s holdings and reflect the historical significance of eastern Libya, which has long been home to civilizations that played major roles in the history of the Mediterranean region.

The department emphasized that the voluntary handover reflects the success of awareness campaigns conducted in recent years.

These initiatives have focused on educating local communities about the importance of preserving archaeological sites and historical artifacts, while encouraging citizens to cooperate with authorities in protecting cultural heritage from theft, trafficking, or destruction.
