The Speaker of the House of Representatives (HOR), Agila Saleh, called on Acting Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General to Libya Stephanie Williams to stop the daily flow of arms and mercenaries to Libya.

In a statement, Saleh pointed out that the Head of the Presidential Council of the Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez Al-Sarraj, said that he would not adhere to the truce announced by the Libyan National Army (LNA) as his continuation of hostilities “is clear with the targeting of LNA armed aircrafts in Al-Watiya and Tarhuna.”

Saleh rejected collective punishment and acts of revenge reported from cities across western Libya, calling for action in accordance with international and domestic laws, as well as a commitment to the good treatment of prisoners.

He called for the continuation of the UN mission’s work in light of the Berlin Conference outcomes, alongside his initiative that is in line with the Libyan constitutional declaration and UN Security Council resolutions.

The speaker of the Libyan Parliament expressed his gratitude for efforts made by the UN to bring peace to Libya and the positive interaction with his initiative put forward in late April.

He stressed the need to move towards achieving security and stability in Libya, saving the country from chaos and restoring calm and tranquility to it.
