The Prime Minister of the Libyan Interim Government, Abdullah Al-Thinni, held a meeting with Minister of Social Affairs Dr. Fathia Ali Hamid in Benghazi.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister reviewed the report submitted by the Social Affairs Minister, stressing the need to provide aid for internally displaced citizens.

Al-Thinni also denounced the destruction of public and private property, and blatant violations committed by Government of National Accord (GNA) forces in the western region. He highlighted the violations occurring in Tarhuna after the city was recently captured from the Libyan National Army (LNA).

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) also called on GNA officials to carry out a prompt and impartial investigation into the looting and destruction of public and private property in Tarhuna and Al-Asabaa. It stated that these appeared to be “acts of retribution and revenge that risk further fraying Libya’s social fabric”.

Meanwhile, LNA spokesman Major General Ahmed Al-Mismari claimed that GNA forces were responsible for the destruction and looting currently taking place in Tarhuna.
