On Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin underlined the importance of a ceasefire in Libya during a telephone call with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, according to a statement released by the Kremlin.

The Kremlin said that the two leaders expressed a mutual concern over the
continued fighting, which has caused significant civilian casualties and damaged vital infrastructure in the country.

President Putin emphasized the need for an immediate ceasefire and the resumption of inter-Libyan dialogue rooted in the outcomes of the Berlin Conference, the statement said.

The Russian and Turkish Presidents also discussed current challenges in fighting the global COVID-19 pandemic.

They spoke of the gradual restoration of bilateral ties, after restrictions imposed due to the pandemic are lifted.
