On Sunday, the Minister of the Interior for the Libyan Government of National Accord
(GNA), Fathi Bashagha, said that Libya did not pose a threat to Egypt’s security.

He stressed that the GNA was ready to defend their lands from Egyptian intervention.

“The political leadership of Egypt has forgotten that the Libyan people share with Egypt history, belief, and fate,” Bashaga said on his Twitter account, commenting on recent statements by Egyptian President Abdel-Fatah El-Sisi.

“The Libyans do not wish to harm Egypt’s security, but they also don’t accept to be threatened,” Bashaga added.

On Sunday, the Presidential Council of the GNA rejected the statements made by President El-
Sisi about the possibility of military intervention in the country.

The Tripoli based government regards the statements as a ‘declaration of war’.

Earlier, the Egyptian President said that Cairo had received direct threats from “terrorist mercenaries and militias” aligned with the GNA.

El-Sisi claimed that “any direct intervention by the Egyptian state has now gained international legitimacy”.

According to the head of
state, the purpose of using military force will be to protect the Egyptian border, achieve a ceasefire, and establish peace and order in its neighboring state.
