Osama Hammad, the Prime Minister of Libya’s Parliament-designate government, has accused the United Nations (UN) Envoy to Libya, of showing bias towards the rival government in Tripoli. He urged UN Secretary-General António Guterres to replace Abdoulaye Bathily.

In a letter addressed to Guterres and the UN Security Council’s Permanent members, Hammad criticised Bathily’s recent briefing before the UN Security Council, stating it contained “many inaccuracies and some truths.”

He stressed that Bathily should act as a facilitator for political dialogue, treating all parties equally.

Hammad accused Bathily of basing his briefing on information provided by the rival Government of National Unity (GNU).

Hammad contradicted Bathily’s claims that Hammad’s government obstructed election preparations, stating that the government allocated funds for election preparations and supported the electoral process.

He called for Bathily’s removal from the Libyan scene and the appointment of a suitable successor focused on resolving the political deadlock.
