U.S. Ambassador in Kuwait: We oppose Foreign Armed Escalation in Libya

The U.S. Ambassador to Kuwait, Alina Romanowski, has said during an interview with Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Anba that the United States opposes escalation and foreign armed intervention in Libya.

According to Sputnik, the ambassador called for an immediate ceasefire and a return to the UN-led political talks.

Oil-rich Libya has been mired in chaos since the ouster and killing of Moammar Gadhafi in 2011. It now has two rival authorities and a multitude of armed groups vying for control of the country.

The country’s internationally recognised government is based in Tripoli, while Khalifa Haftar, the commander of the Libyan National Army, is supported by the elected Libyan parliament based in the east.
