On Sunday, the General Authority for Hajj and Umrah Affairs announced the deaths of two Libyan pilgrims, Hawa Shklawon and Mustafa Ali Saleh Al-Kilani, on the Mountain of Arafat.

These fatalities increase the total number of Libyan pilgrim deaths during this year’s Hajj to four.

Hajj is an annual pilgrimage to Mecca and a significant religious duty for Muslims. It involves a series of rituals, including standing on the plains of Arafat, which symbolizes unity among Muslims worldwide.

The recent deaths highlight the challenges faced by pilgrims, especially the elderly, during this rigorous journey.

Al-Kilani underscores the importance of providing adequate medical and logistical support to ensure the safety and well-being of pilgrims. The General Authority for Hajj and Umrah and prayers will be held

It is noteworthy that the interim Government of National Unity (GNU) allocated over 500 Hajj spots this season for those affected by Storm Daniel in the city of Derna and some areas of the Green Mountain, as stated by Prime Minister Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba earlier today, Monday.

Libya has been in chaos since a NATO-backed uprising toppled longtime leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.

The planned elections for December 2021 were delayed due to disagreements over election laws and the eligibility of certain candidates. This delay has raised concerns about the feasibility of a peaceful political transition.
