Seventeen Egyptian companies specialising in pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, medical devices, and ambulance equipment participated in a roundtable on the sidelines of the 16th Healthcare Forum and Exhibition in Tripoli, Libya, from 24 to 27 June 2024. The event aimed to boost Egyptian exports in the medical industry to the Libyan market and explore avenues for mutual cooperation.

According to Egypt’s “Youm 7” newspaper, 90% of these Egyptian companies secured export contracts with Libyan agents and distributors, reported Al-Youm Al-Sabea newspaper.

The Egyptian Export Council for Medical Industries and Pharmaceuticals stated that the medical and pharmaceutical industries sector’s exports reached $611 million last year. Additionally, the sector achieved $214.5 million in exports during the first four months of 2024.

The forum and exhibition provided a platform for Egyptian companies to showcase their products and engage with potential Libyan partners. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen economic ties between Egypt and Libya, particularly in the healthcare sector.

The Egyptian delegation included major pharmaceutical companies, medical equipment manufacturers, and suppliers of healthcare services. Their participation underscored Egypt’s commitment to expanding its presence in the Libyan market.

The event also featured seminars and workshops focused on the latest trends in healthcare and opportunities for collaboration. Industry experts highlighted the potential for growth in the Libyan healthcare market, given the ongoing reconstruction and development efforts.

Libyan representatives expressed interest in the high-quality products and services offered by Egyptian companies. They emphasised the importance of building strong partnerships to enhance healthcare delivery in Libya.

The successful contracts signed during the forum are expected to pave the way for increased trade and cooperation between the two countries. This collaboration is seen as a vital step towards improving healthcare infrastructure and access to medical services in Libya.
