On Friday, the Acting Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Libya, Stephanie Williams discussed Libyan affairs with the Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) Agila Saleh. Williams addressed the Libyan situation in light of Saleh’s initiative and the need to intensify efforts to find an inclusive political solution to the crisis.

According to the statement of the UN mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Williams welcomed Speaker Saleh’s support for an immediate and lasting ceasefire, especially in Sirte.

During the meeting that took place in Geneva, both parties welcomed the announcement of the National Oil Corporation (NOC) regarding the lifting of the force majeure on oil.

“They stressed the necessity to avoid any obstacles for oil flows, as the natural resource belongs to all Libyans; and urged for revenue expenditures to be managed in a transparent and professional manner.” the statement added.

Williams and Speaker Saleh also called on foreign actors to stop their negative interference in Libya, facilitate and support the political process in order to prevent a new humanitarian and economic catastrophe in Sirte and the Oil Crescent.
