The ICC Prosecutor, Karim Khan, is set to update the UN Security Council today, Tuesday, on the latest measures taken by the court to ensure accountability and justice for crimes committed in Libya.

The briefing will be delivered directly from Tripoli, marking a significant development in the court’s engagement with the country.

Khan’s visit to the Libyan capital included meetings with key officials, including the Chairman of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Mnifi, Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba, and Attorney General Al-Siddiq Al-Sour.

During a meeting on Monday, Al-Menfi stressed the importance of uncovering the truth and ensuring accountability to support transitional justice and comprehensive national reconciliation. Dbaiba also discussed with Khan the ICC’s ongoing operations in Libya, emphasising cooperation with Libyan authorities to pursue fugitives.

Khan began his visit by meeting with Attorney General Al-Sour, where they explored establishing a collaborative mechanism involving Libya’s three governing authorities. The aim is to find effective ways to deliver justice for victims and ensure perpetrators face prosecution.

This marks a key moment in the ICC’s efforts to strengthen its role in Libya, emphasising the need for justice and accountability as integral steps towards long-term stability and reconciliation.
