The Steering Committee of the Islamic Call Society has announced the kidnapping of its Director of the Investment Office, Moaz Al-Hashemi, under “mysterious circumstances” in Tripoli on Monday afternoon.

In a statement, the committee described the incident as “another failed attempt” by certain entities seeking to appoint a relative of the Interior Minister through a null government decision that has been legally overturned by rulings from the Appeal Courts of Tripoli and Benghazi for violating existing legislation.

The committee further claimed that the forced disappearance of Al-Hashemi is a last-ditch effort aimed at seizing the assets and funds of the Islamic Call Society.

The society urged Attorney General Al-Siddiq Al-Sour to intervene swiftly to identify those responsible and ensure the safe return of Al-Hashemi to his family and workplace.

The Interior Ministry was held fully responsible for Al-Hashemi’s safety, while the Steering Committee called on the Prime Minister of the outgoing Government of National Unity (GNU), Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba, to stop the entities behind the incident.

It also urged the security authorities to act promptly and intensify efforts to uncover the circumstances of the crime.

This incident follows an October 2023 decision by the GNU to restructure the Islamic Call Society’s Board of Directors, sparking widespread controversy. At the time, Presidential Council member Abdullah Al-Lafi criticized the decision as violating active legislation.

Similarly, the Head of the Energy Committee in the House of Representatives, Issa Al-Araibi, denounced it, stating the move contradicts the laws governing the society’s founding and lacks legal legitimacy.
