Torrential rains have unleashed severe flooding in the city of Ajdabiya, submerging entire neighborhoods and displacing families. Among the worst-hit areas is the 7th October neighborhood, where homes and streets have been inundated, leaving residents stranded and in urgent need of rescue.

In response, Libya’s military and security forces have launched extensive operations to evacuate flooded homes and assist those trapped by rising waters. The coordinated efforts, supported by local authorities, aim to mitigate the immediate risks to lives and property. Municipal officials confirmed that specialized teams are working tirelessly to pump water from the worst-affected areas and restore some semblance of normalcy.

Adding a critical boost to these efforts, the National Oil Corporation (NOC) has stepped in with emergency assistance. Acting under the directive of Chairman Farhat Bengdara, oil companies operating near Ajdabiya have been mobilized to support relief operations. The NOC’s intervention underscores the vital role of Libya’s oil sector in addressing humanitarian crises, particularly in regions that host significant oil infrastructure.

The floods have highlighted long-standing vulnerabilities in Ajdabiya’s urban planning and drainage systems. As one of Libya’s historic cities, its infrastructure has struggled to keep pace with modern demands, leaving it particularly susceptible to extreme weather. With neighborhoods like 7th October suffering extensive damage, calls for investment in flood prevention and disaster preparedness are growing louder.

This disaster has also brought out the resilience and solidarity of Ajdabiya’s residents. Community members have mobilized to provide donations, shelter, and resources to those displaced by the flooding. Social media has become a hub for organizing local relief efforts and amplifying the urgent need for external aid.
