EU Ambassador to Libya: We Will Continue to Work for Lasting Ceasefire in Libya

“We will continue working with our partners to achieve a permanent ceasefire between the warring parties to achieve the political process of the ongoing conflict to push Libya toward peace and reconciliation,” the European Union Ambassador to Libya, Alan Bugeja said.

“At this time, we are focusing on many innocent victims of the ongoing conflict and instability that has devastated the country over the recent decade,” he added.

The European Union Ambassador to Libya expressed his wishes to the Libyan people for a peaceful holiday on the occasion of Eid Al-Adha.

Oil-rich Libya has been mired in chaos since the ouster and killing of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. It presently has two rival authorities and a multitude of militias vying for control of the country.

The country’s internationally recognised Government of National Accord is based in Tripoli, while Khalifa Haftar, the commander of the Libyan National Army, is supported by a parallel administration based in the east.
