On Thursday, UNDP Resident Representative in Libya, Sophie Kemkhadze, met with Khaled Muhammad Al Dosari, Ambassador of Qatar to Libya, to reaffirm and expand their partnership in support of Libya’s national recovery and long-term stability.
The meeting underlined a shared commitment to helping Libyan institutions rebuild, create new economic opportunities, and address the urgent needs of communities across the country.
For his part, Al Dosari reiterated Qatar’s strong support for Libya’s future, emphasizing the importance of coordinated international efforts to advance peace, development, and prosperity.
“Qatar is fully committed to supporting Libya’s path toward stability and progress,” he said. “We are proud to work with UNDP to build a more resilient and hopeful future for the Libyan people.”
Meanwhile, Kemkhadze expressed her appreciation for Qatar’s continued backing, especially through the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), a key partner in UNDP’s Accelerator Labs — innovative hubs that drive creative, fast-moving solutions to development challenges. In Libya, these efforts focus on pressing national priorities such as empowering youth, improving water security, and expanding economic opportunities.
Libya’s young population, abundant natural resources, and strategic location give it enormous potential, but years of conflict have left institutions fragile and communities vulnerable. With over 60% of Libya’s population under 30, youth-focused development is critical to lasting peace.
During their talks, both sides agreed to deepen cooperation in job creation, community resilience, and post-crisis recovery efforts. These priorities align with UNDP’s broader strategy to support Libya’s transition through practical solutions that improve daily life for citizens.
As Libya continues to navigate a complex and fragile recovery, international partnerships like the one between Qatar and UNDP play a vital role in laying the groundwork for peace and sustainable development.
